With his USP Roadmap, Sooraj Barjatya makes you smile, and that’s all that matters. Here, Uunchai is a film that embodies both a great deal of nostalgia and emotion.
Four friends, who are all in their mid-seventies, have spent fifty long years together. Their relationship is unbreakable and transcends friendship. One day, one of the four unexpectedly dies, leaving the other three to fulfill the deceased’s final request. They make the decision to go to the base of Mount Everest in order to tell the story of friendship, love, and grief.
Screenplay:
Whether you like it or not, Sooraj Barjatya is a well-known figure in Hindi films. Although his fan following is diverse in age, the majority of it consists of adults who are passionate about his films. Enough evidence is provided by the popularity of his television movies. Man has been so ingrained in our minds over time that many of us refer to his characters when discussing Hindi films. Even the opening tune of our Antakshari game rounds is from his film. You are aware of his impact on us. So he’s come to take you on a nostalgic journey when he decides to team up seven of the most well-known and successful people in the business for a film about friendships and family values.
The movie Uunchai transports you back to the time when the events leading up to this expedition were happening. It starts in the highlands. The picture, which was written by Barjatya with a screenplay by Abhishek Dixit, is a classic Barjatya USP that values straightforward storytelling. A man who has built half of his career on emulating the Ramayana pattern has a deep understanding of the three-act format and is reluctant to deviate from it. Therefore, he never allows the lines to cross in a very complicated way, even though he has seven primary characters and one extended cameo (that too starring a well-known figure). He feels that the best way to share all of his stories is one at a time, effortlessly.
You are immediately reminded that his cinema has aged alongside the greatest stars because he creates them and also recognizes their age. One of the most important reminders is Anupam Kher, who appears in all of Sooraj Barjatya’s films. The good news is that the director maintains his ethical standards while simultaneously trying to appeal to a younger audience. Even though there are songs following each intense scene, they are new and unlike anything we are accustomed to hearing from him. or his persistent prodding towards the realm of social media. However, the latter statement also becomes rather satirical at one point. However, he is always focused on the relationships and the companionship.
Even though the entire thing is easy to watch and keeps you entertained throughout, there are a few extremely prolonged passages that add significantly to the film’s runtime. In Barjatya reality, women were only able to initiate stories in men, and this is still very much the case in ours as well. Naturally, Neena eventually comes to the realization that she hasn’t given herself any attention, but by then, it’s too late. Furthermore, why does nobody in our world belong to the middle class and everyone is traditionally beautiful? I don’t buy the argument that the characters played by Boman and Kher come from a middle-class background. Real-time films should take this shifting socioeconomic landscape into account.
Star Performance:
Together with a filmmaker who is renowned in his own right, these all-time greats are creating a product. Amitabh Bachchan is merely occupied with being himself and challenging stereotypes about aging. It is reassuring to watch him perform at his age, and he frequently injects the movie’s heart and chirps.
Anupam Kher’s comedic timing is impeccable, and his use of his body to accentuate humor is unmatched. Boman Irani is a completely different animal with all of his eccentricities, and this time he even romances. Too adorable.
Since Neena Gupta is the only woman in this group with some degree of agency, she is a breath of fresh air when it comes to romance and cuteness. You have to give in and smile every time she appears on television. Furthermore, is there anyone who can match her mysterious on-screen presence? We need to see more of Sarika on TV, and she’s doing a fantastic job in her second inning. I hope she keeps up this good work for years to come.
I can’t wake up with perfectly styled hair like Parineeti Chopra does, yet she manages to look fairly good in an extended cameo!
