What’s Good: This entertaining science fiction movie is finally here, perfect for a family outing.
What’s Bad: Several of the storyline’s parts lack credibility, and it feels cliched.
Aryan (Sharad Kelkar) is a villain whose sole goal is to use a mystery material called Sparc to harvest lethal Nova gas from beneath the surface. And for that, he doesn’t care if it endangers people’s lives or harms Mother Earth. He may go to any length for it.
Concerned about the potential harm Sparc could cause, extraterrestrial aliens from another planet resolve to preserve the equilibrium of the cosmos by saving Earth. They send one of their extraterrestrial beings to Earth for the assignment, and it is for this reason that he meets Tamizh (Sivakarthikeyan).
Tamizh is a carefree and optimistic man who genuinely loves the environment. He doesn’t even use pesticides on his farm because they damage the land and the creatures that eat it. He and Tattoo, an extraterrestrial from a different planet, are brought together by fate to defend Mother Earth against threats like Aryan.
Screenplay Analysis:
Although cliched, R Ravikumar’s story is intriguing. It’s the same story, told countless times, with the villain’s hunger for power and his encounter with an eternal hero’s resistance. However, the entire alien plot and the alien’s friendship with Tamizh’s character are interesting and entertaining to watch.
Alayaan has a sluggish beginning and several unnecessary sequences and songs that may have been omitted. But once the primary narrative is revealed, the movie becomes quite interesting.
Ruben did a great job with the editing, particularly with the way he handled the flashback sections and the scene changes. Nirav Shah’s cinematography is merely mediocre.
Star Performance:
Throughout his career, Sivakarthikeyan has played a number of intriguing roles, and this time around was no exception. He gives a sincere performance in the role of Tamizh. His sweetness and innocence add to the attractive qualities of his character. Even when he performs dance routines and action situations, he looks flawless.
For his performance, Venkat Senguttuvan as Tattoo is deserving of all the praise. It takes more work to perform such roles, even though the extraterrestrial character was constructed with motion capture and computer-generated imagery. Venkat’s charming demeanor and expression are spot on. Not to mention, Siddharth’s voice modulation adds a lot of fun and endearment to the Tattoo character.
As Aryan, Sharad Kelkar exudes malice and plays the villain with ease. He has played these kinds of parts before, though, and nothing particularly sticks out. Yogi Babu performs his duties well by sprinkling humor throughout. Every other actor does a respectable job in their roles.
