Due to the 2023 Hollywood labor issues, many of the year’s films were box office failures, with exorbitant budgets and poor marketing being the main causes.
EXAMINE SCREENPLAY
Brawler Jeetu discovers early in childhood that he can utilize his street fighting skills to his advantage in the boxing ring. He lacks a coach, which is unusual in boxing movies and the real world of boxing, but he does have a devoted friend named Billu. Billu just wants to get to the big city and become a champion eve-teaser, while Jeetu wants to leave Phulpur and go to Allahabad to become a National champion. In order to raise the crime rate in Allahabad and realize Jeetu’s ambition while they’re there, the two closest buddies depart.There, at the “World’s Finest Boxing School,” a boxing institution, Jeetu meets Kalpana, a feisty, difficult-to-please girl, and they tie the knot. Despite two children and multiple victories, Jeetu has yet to secure a fight at the national level due to the widespread disinterest in boxing in India. Breaking Jeetu discovers that none of the gold medals he has ever earned are actually made of gold when he seeks to pawn them. This is what truly breaks his heart, and he considers how he can raise the funds necessary to treat his ill daughter.
The idea that boxers should be awarded genuine gold medals so they may subsequently pawn them off is one of the film’s more strange points. Wouldn’t the director be better off discussing how to make the system better? However, that is only the most absurd aspect of “Medal.” Three fights are depicted in the movie, all of which are stock MMA fight shots. The sound is so out of sync.that punches that Jeetu didn’t even throw are audible. Not in a positive sense, the performances lean more toward comedy than seriousness. Beware the ridiculously Rocky-esque workout, a parody of all the workouts from movies ever made. And which fighter chuckles while taking a beating? That is, Jeetu’s adversaries do!
Although some may comment on the movie’s release date being so near to Anurag Kashyap’s “Mukkabaz,” it’s safe to state that the two are very different from one another, and this one doesn’t even come close. However, nobody ever really tries hard in this one either.
PLOT
