EXAMINE SCREENPLAY
The 2021 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland, signaled the conclusion of the Spider-Man trilogy and devastated the hearts of many Marvel fans. They have been clamoring for him to appear in more Marvel productions. Only that Tom has inked a new contract to feature in numerous additional MCU crossovers and another Spider-Man trilogy has been revealed thus far.
But since Spider-Man 4 hasn’t been officially announced, many fans have been wondering when the next Spider-Man film will be released. Initial reports said that Marvel was considering a July 2024 release, but since Marvel had already set a date, that was not practical.
Marvel has not yet revealed the Spider-Man Universe (SSU) calendar for after Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (March 29, 2024). On the other hand, a new rumor claims the corporation is going to make the fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland.
A fan who requested information on Spider-Man 4 recently received a response from well-known scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus. According to him, Sony “did something related to [Spider-Man 4] recently and would expect an announcement about it later this year.” Then, speculating that Sony might not host a panel at SDCC in 2023, he suggested that the revelation might not take place there.
Afterwards, another Twitter scooper, MyTimeToShineHello, tweeted the date “August 28, 2025” without providing any context. Consequently, a lot of fans believed that Marvel intended to release Spider-Man 4 on August 28, 2025, and that the date was connected to Alex Perez’s tweet.
This prediction might be overly optimistic because August 28, 2025, falls on a Thursday. The exact release date for the Tom Holland film could be August 29, if the fourth installment is scheduled for release in late August 2025.
It was not featured in the event because, based on earlier rumors, the studio did not go far enough in making Spider-Man 4. The project is “not far enough along in development to warrant [being showcased],” a source told Comic Book. This suggests that Tom Holland, who is rumored to take the lead role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, would portray Peter Parker.
PLOT
Senior high school Peter Parker, his friend Harry Osborn, and his love interest Mary Jane Watson visit a genetics lab at Columbia University while on a field trip. After coming home sick, Peter was bitten by a genetically altered spider that he saw there. In the meantime, Norman Osborn, Harry’s father and the creator and owner of Oscorp, works to obtain a significant military contract. Norman is a scientist. After using a performance-enhancing substance on himself, he loses his mind and murders his helper.
The following day, Peter has superhuman strength, agility, speed, acute senses, and the capacity to cling to walls in addition to spider-like skills. Ignoring Uncle Ben’s warning that “great power comes great responsibility,” Peter thinks he should get an automobile to win Mary Jane over. Peter gets defrauded of his winnings from an underground wrestling event, which he needed to pay for the car. Peter follows Ben when he is slain a few moments later by a thief that he let to escape, but the thief is killed when he falls out of a window. Oscorp’s competitor Quest Aerospace is conducting a product test when a deranged Norman breaks into it and murders multiple people.
After graduating, Peter dons a spandex outfit and the mask of Spider-Man to start using his skills to fight injustice. Peter is hired as a freelance photographer by J. Jonah Jameson, publisher of the Daily Bugle newspaper, because he is the only one who can take clean pictures of Spider-Man. Norman assasinates the Oscorp board after learning that they intend to remove him in order to sell the company to Quest. Jameson later refers to the unidentified murderer as the “Green Goblin.”
Peter declines the Goblin’s offer to be by his side. When they fight, Peter sustains injuries. Mary Jane, Harry, Norman, and Peter are invited by Aunt May to Thanksgiving dinner. When Norman notices the wound at dinner, he knows it’s Peter. Norman later assaults and hurts May because he believes that attacking individuals who are dear to him is the only way to fight Peter. During her visit with May at the nearby hospital, Mary Jane confesses her obsession with Spider-Man, the superhero who has twice saved her life. When Mary Jane is seen holding Peter’s hand, Harry, who is dating her, believes she has affections for him. Unaware that Peter is in love with Mary Jane, a distraught Harry confides in his father, exposing Spider-Man’s greatest vulnerability.
Beside the Queensboro Bridge, Norman is holding Mary Jane and a car full of children from the Roosevelt Island Tram hostage. After making Peter decide one of them to save, he drops them both. Mary Jane and the tram car are both saved by Peter. After that, Norman viciously beats him and tosses him inside an abandoned building nearby. When Peter obtains the upper hand, Norman gives himself up, pleading for pardon as he stealthily prepares to impale Peter from behind with his glider. Peter avoids the attack because he senses the presence of a spider, and the glider instead bites Norman. Before passing away, Norman instructs Peter to keep his Goblin identity a secret from Harry. After bringing Norman’s body to the Osborn residence, Peter runs into Harry, who pulls a gun on him, but Peter manages to get away.
Harry vows revenge on Spider-Man at Norman’s burial since he believes the superhero is to blame for his father’s passing. Mary Jane tells Peter that she is in love with him. But Peter suppresses his genuine feelings and tells Mary Jane they can only be friends because he feels he must shield her from the unwanted attention of his foes. Remembering Ben’s remarks, Peter embraces his new role as Spider-Man as he heads out.
